Difference between Religion and Spirituality

What is the difference between spiritual and religious? Religious means following beliefs and principles of a certain faith. Spiritualism need not be about following something which is already written in some scriptures or acclaimed books. Spiritualism can come without being religious and vice versa. However, mostly both these concepts are intertwined and seen as one which is not correct.

Let’s understand the difference between the two as following;

Religion:
Religion is a belief that is entirely human creation and usually centers on specific rituals and principles that outline a basic moral code and belief system.

Spirituality:
The concept of spirituality is mainly concerned about spirit. It relates to the essence of humanity. People who call themselves spiritual try to enhance and develop their spirit and its power through various channels. Some use meditation, some read books, some believe in charity works and such others. The main of spiritualism is to develop the inner force to the next level.

  1. Very well put. I like it. So many people mistakenly think Religion and Spiritualism are the same. Religion is fine until one seeks spiritual love and maturity. As you say, one is man-made, the other is God. Thanks. Robert Egby
